In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, patients are demanding more than just treatment—they want personalized care, direct access to providers, and a trusted connection within their own communities. These essential values are often found in independent practices, yet private physicians face increasing challenges in a system dominated by large healthcare conglomerates. That’s where the Physician Association of California (PAC) steps in.

Launched in 2024, PAC is California’s only trade association solely dedicated to protecting and promoting independent physician practice. With a growing network of over 1,500 members and counting, PAC is working tirelessly to preserve the doctor-patient relationship by advocating for legislative reform, eliminating bureaucratic roadblocks, and raising public awareness of the critical role that private practices play in patient health.

One of PAC’s most outspoken advocates is Dr. Lamia Gabal, board-certified urologist and founder of Prestige Medical Group. A respected leader in private practice, Dr. Gabal understands the direct connection between physician independence and quality of care. “When physicians are free to practice independently,” she explains, “they can deliver care that’s customized, responsive, and built on long-term relationships—not corporate protocols.”

Matthew Robinson, CEO of PAC, echoes this sentiment: “The more we can clear the path for independent physicians, the more patients can access high-quality, local care.”

PAC’s recent legislative push is a prime example of its commitment to systemic change. The organization helped introduce a state bill aimed at eliminating unnecessary barriers for private physicians—cutting red tape, streamlining licensing processes, and accelerating the ability for practices to open or expand. This is just one of several initiatives designed to level the playing field and protect the future of independent medicine.

Beyond policy work, PAC hosts regular events, conferences, and webinars that keep physicians connected and informed. It also collaborates with business and legal experts to provide members with tools to sustain and grow their practices, even in an increasingly complex healthcare environment.

Robinson notes that the movement is gaining momentum, with new members joining weekly. “We are proud to be the standard-bearer for independent care in California,” he says. “Our mission is about creating greater awareness of the value that private physicians bring to their patients—and ensuring they’re equipped to thrive.”

For patients, this movement means better access to experienced, community-focused doctors like Dr. Gabal—professionals who are committed to delivering exceptional, personalized care without the influence of corporate oversight.
