New research presented at the Endocrine Society’s 2025 Annual Meeting has brought encouraging news for men struggling with low energy, weight gain, or symptoms of low testosterone. A study of eighty-three men found that tirzepatide—a medication originally used for weight management and diabetes—may also help restore natural testosterone production in men whose hormone changes are linked to metabolic health.

This is especially important because many men experience “functional hypogonadism,” a form of low testosterone related not to testicular damage, but to issues such as obesity, insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation. In these cases, improving metabolic health may do more for testosterone levels than replacing the hormone alone.

What the Study Found

Men treated with tirzepatide for just eight weeks experienced:

  • Significant weight loss (more than 8% of their body weight)
  • Improved natural testosterone production
  • Increases in LH and FSH, hormones essential for testicular function
  • Better erectile function, in some cases outperforming testosterone therapy alone

Unlike traditional testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), tirzepatide appears to help the body restart its hormonal signaling rather than bypass it. For many men, this represents a healthier long-term approach.

Why This Matters

Symptoms such as fatigue, decreased libido, difficulty maintaining erections, or stubborn weight gain are often assumed to be “just aging.” But in many cases, they reflect deeper metabolic changes that deserve expert evaluation—not guesswork.

As a board-certified Urologist and subspecialty board certified specialist in Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery, I frequently work with men experiencing these concerns. What this new research reinforces is something we see often in clinical practice: when you improve underlying metabolic health, hormones and sexual function frequently improve with it.

A Personalized Approach for Men in Tustin

At Prestige Medical Group, we take a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to men’s wellness. This includes:

  • Understanding the cause of low testosterone rather than simply replacing it
  • Evaluating metabolic markers, weight, sleep, and erectile function together
  • Offering individualized treatment plans that may include hormonal therapy, metabolic therapy, regenerative medicine, or a combination

Research like this expands the options available to men and reinforces the importance of seeing a provider who understands the full hormonal–metabolic connection.

If You’re Experiencing Symptoms

Low energy, decreased libido, weight gain, and erectile dysfunction are not conditions you simply have to “push through.” With newer data and more advanced treatment options, men today have more pathways to reclaiming their health than ever before.

If you’re interested in learning whether metabolic therapy, hormone evaluation, or regenerative treatments may help you, Prestige Medical Group is here to guide you with expertise, compassion, and a personalized plan.
